Bored in quarantine? Donate blood!

I'm a high school student who just finished up all of my classes for the summer and, since half my family is high-risk, I don't have a job. Looking for something to do that would be beneficial to the pandemic, rather than worsening it while still being able to get out of the house, I ended up deciding to donate blood last Tuesday.

I know there are other ways to do it, but I opted to go through the Red Cross app and schedule an appointment. Having previously gone to the center in Charlotte but been turned down due to low hemoglobin (the part of your blood that helps oxygen attach to red blood cells), I picked someplace closer this time: the Red Cross center in Rock Hill. I filled out the information ahead of time, so while I waited to be called back, I chatted with the people at the front desk. After a few minutes, I went back, answered a few questions, had my hemoglobin checked, and was good to donate. It was only 10 minutes (during which I read my book and listened to the radio they had playing), then I grabbed a juice box and fruit snacks to eat in my car (as to avoid taking off my mask). Here's me sitting in the car after I donated, by the way:

All in all, it was a really pleasant experience that only took 40 minutes, and I not only plan to donate again, I have it on the calendar, 4 days after I become eligible to donate again. Everyone who worked there was incredibly polite and were fun to chat with... Plus, you drive by a Krispy Kreme on your way back to Tega Cay/Fort Mill, so there's really no downside to going. The Rock Hill Red Cross' address is 200 Piedmont Blvd, Rock Hill, SC 29732... Go save a life!
